PERSONAL COACHING
MEET YOUR NEW COACH.

My background.
I have a background in martial arts extending back to my teens where I started training in Traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu at the local PCYC, a link in which I still enjoy to this day.  After dabbling in other martial arts and sports for a number of years in my 20’s, it wasn’t until I ventured to the Isle of  Man in the United Kingdom that I re-engaged in the Martial Arts in the form of Western Kickboxing in 2004.  I competed over a couple of years and when my trainer retired I was handed the existing club and began coaching in a baptism of fire.

It was here that I discovered the Crazy Monkey Defense Program.  Quite frankly I was amazed at it effectiveness, accessibility, and ease of being taught to others given the fact that I had been practising martial arts for some years already and saw VAST improvements in both my game and those I instructed.

I quickly joined the Crazy Monkey Trainers Program as I just didn’t just want to be proficient in my ability, but I really wanted to be an outstanding Coach as well. I have been with the coaching program for since 2006 and have earned my Advanced Trainers License, of which there is only a handful in the world.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was introduced to me around the same time through European Head CMD coach Phil Wright, and I particularly enjoyed the embodied movement, use of leverage as well as the simplicity of BJJ. I have been coaching it to my clientele for 5 years, also earning my Purple Belt under my coach Rodney King who is a 3rd Degree Black Belt under the legendary Rigan Machado.

I established Crazy Monkey Isle of Man introducing the system along side establishing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the Isle of Man running the club for 5 years. During that time I also mentored three Trainers who have now taken over CM IOM. I left the Isle in the March 2011 to return to Australia to raise my son with my loving wife on the Sunshine Coast surrounded by his family.

Chris’s Coaching Style.

Educated primarily as a Registered Nurse, I have found myself in numerous roles teaching others. I am able to break down things into both it’s technical and principle/conceptual basis and articulate it in a way which promotes better understanding to the client. I have also studied Learning and Assessment to a Masters Level under Chester University in the UK.

My personal coaching style is adaptive. Different people respond to various coaching styles, and the same person can also respond differently depending on their personal situation - no singular coaching style fits all. However I do possess an unbridled passion and enthusiasm for Martial Arts and its ability to not only enhance your physical and mental ability on the mat, but also prepare you for full contact living!

I genuinely enjoy seeing people develop. It’s a simply awesome experience seeing the ‘light bulbs’ switching on in peoples eyes when they have a break through in their game and knowing I helped to get them there. Or seeing the camaraderie formed between people on the mat as they polish their game and try to outwit one another. To positively affect a persons life is immeasurable and priceless.

I am extremely proud of representing the Crazy Monkey Defense Program and Monkey Jits Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on the Sunshine Coast and I look forward to coaching you soon.
