Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a Martial Art that focuses mainly on clinching the opponent to prevent them from striking and then taking an opponent down to the ground, and then controlling the engagement on the ground looking through pins, hold, chokes, joint locks. 

Grappling as a sport has become very popular in recent years but CMD's Monkey Jits reminds its athletes that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) was first and foremost developed for self preservation, not for sport, not to score points on a guard pass or win a match on an advantage, but to enable the trained practitioner to protect themselves and their loved ones, to go home, alive and with minimal injury.  You will still learn how to clinch, wrestle, takedown, throw, escape, joint locks and chokes on resisting opponents... but you will also learn how to deal with strikes and know that your BJJ game is street ready.

Monkey-Jits classes are still performance based, we roll and we still train to improve our martial ability. However our Monkey-Jits classes have a culture and environment were playfulness, co-operation and respect is key. We want you to have a great time and develop comradery while learning something about yourself and finding improvements  both physically and mentally.  Remaining calm under pressure, reacting appropriately and persevering under unfavourable circumstances are key elements in BJJ, as well as in life.
